28 May 2015

The man-portable shoulder-fired weapon, weighing less than 7kg, is on display for the first time in Canada.

Defence and security company Saab presents, for the first time in Canada, the newly-developed next-generation Carl-Gustaf M4 at the 2015 CANSEC exhibition.

The new lightweight Carl-Gustaf M4, weighing less than 7kg, offers significant weight savings to the soldier. It is also compatible with future battlefield technology, such as intelligent sighting systems for programmable ammunition. For the first time in Canada, the new Carl-Gustaf M4 is now showcased at CANSEC.

"We are very proud to present our new Carl-Gustaf M4 in Canada for the first time. It has been developed as a response to our customers' needs and we are very pleased to show the new version of the system to the CANSEC audience," says Patrick Palmer, executive VP and head of Saab Technologies Canada.

Saab has designed the Carl-Gustaf M4 to feature open compatibility with a range of intelligent sights, ensuring the system remains on the cutting-edge of military technological innovation.

"We are planning to do a lot more with the Carl-Gustaf system. We want to continuously develop this winning concept so that it always fits effortlessly into the arsenal of modern dismounted soldiers," says Grgen Johansson, head of Saab business area Dynamics.

As a true multi-role, man-portable shoulder-fired weapon, the Carl-Gustaf weapon system is currently in use in more than 40 countries worldwide. The system has a long and successful history, and still proves itself to be a highly modern and capable ground support weapon. The system has successively been modernised and adapted to meet new requirements. With the lightweight, flexible and intelligent Carl-Gustaf M4, showcased for the first time at the 2014 Association of the US Army exhibition in Washington DC, Saab offers the latest man-portable shoulder-launched multi-role weapon system designed to provide users with flexible capability and help troops to remain agile in any scenario.
