Saab Grintek Defence to provide Naval Laser Warning System

Development and production of the system for Germany's Rheinmetall Waffe Munition will take place in Cape Town.

Saab has agreed to a contract with Rheinmetall Waffe Munition in Germany to provide Naval Laser Warning Systems as sensors to Rheinmetall's MASS Softkill System in a frigate upgrade programme in Asia Pacific.

Saab Grintek Defence has previously joined forces with Rheinmetall Waffe Munition in delivering similar systems to both the German Navy and the UAE Navy. The contract, valued at MSEK 10 (R14 million), represents a cost-effective solution for both the main contractor and end-user, with hardware delivery expected to be completed by end 2017. An additional contract for spare parts and services is expected to follow in 2015.
